New to church?

We completely understand that it can be daunting if you’ve never been to Church before or if you’re new to Tollgate. To make your first visit a little easier, this page gives you some idea of what to expect. If you have any other questions, or would just appreciate a chat about it, please get in touch.

When are the services?

We meet on Sundays at 10:30am and 6:30pm for our main services.

Midweek, there are a range of meetings and activities, some of which are based elsewhere – you can find out about these here.

Where’s the Church?

The church is in Woodhatch Road, not far from Redhill town centre. You can find a map here.

If you’re driving, there is plenty of car parking just outside the church. The nearest train station is Earlswood, which is about 20 mins walk away, so if you need a lift from there just let us know.

What Happens When I Get There?

When you come into the church building, someone will greet you at the door and offer you a copy of the weekly notices and a Bible. Although words for all the songs are projected onto the wall at the front, you might also like a printed copy of the words.

The services start at 10:30am and 6:30pm on a Sunday. Most services last about an hour to an hour and a half. The service will normally consist of singing, Bible readings, some prayers and an easy to listen to sermon.  If you’d like to know what the sermons are like, you can listen to previous sermons online before you come by visiting the sermon library here.

Please feel free to sit wherever you like  – there are normally some seats at the back reserved for those with young children to help if they are a little wriggly! We understand that children can be noisy too sometimes so don’t feel overly concerned – if you feel that you’d prefer to take them out, there is a crèche provided in the morning meetings.

If you need to leave during a service for whatever reason, no-one will mind at all if you slip out.

After the morning service there is a normally a chance for a cuppa – please just follow the crowd to the hall at the back and enjoy one with us.

Is There Anything for my Children?

Children generally sit with the people they came with for the first part of the service. After about twenty minutes they will go to their various groups;

  • There is a creche for little ones, where you can leave them with the carers and rejoin the service if you wish. If you want to stay with them, you can still see and hear the service on the TV
  • Children aged 4 – 10 can join the Spotlight group, where they will be taught age-appropriately from the Bible.
  • Those aged 10 – 14 are invited to leave the service slightly later for the ‘Engaged’ group.

Please feel free to encourage your children to join these groups even if you expect to only be with us for the one week – for example, if you’re visiting us while on holiday. They’ll be very welcome in the groups and give you a chance to participate in the main service without distraction.

Will I be asked to give money?

There will be a collection made during the service, but is for regular attendees and members of the church. You should therefore feel no embarrassment about just passing the bags on – many members contribute directly through their bank accounts anyway, so you won’t be the only one!

This collection funds the church and direct ministries, along with our charitable partners.
